"Long before I wrote stories, I listened for stories."

Charlene grew up with a story-telling dad, and every experience required a walk down memory lane with a story or two, so storytelling is in her blood. Growing up in Unicoi gave her an appreciation for the beauty of the mountains and the people who live there. Her grandmother was a hard-working, independent woman who was an important role model.

Charlene went on to earn many college degrees, to travel over much of the world, and to be a wife and mother (all wonderful fodder for stories). She began teaching Humanities at Milligan College in 1982, and her passion for sharing her love of art, literature, and history has been a natural outlet for storytelling. Even college students will sit still for a good rendition of the beginning of the Trojan War or a recap of a Chaucer story!

Charlene's life has been continually shaped by her walk with the Lord, and one of her goals is to bring Him glory through her stories. She has seen how God works through individuals, not only in the Scriptures, but in the world around her. Watching God work has excited her and provided her encouraging stories that are meant to be shared with others.

"Long before I wrote stories, I listened for stories. Listening for them is something more acute than listening to them. I suppose it's an early form of participation in what goes on. Listening children know stories are there. When their elders sit and begin, children are just waiting and hoping for one to come out, like a mouse from its hole."
