"I'm really a ham at heart with a flair for the dramatic. I love to read stories, listen to stories and to tell stories." Janet Wike began telling stories in 1979 and tells Jack Tales, Appalachian Tales, Historical, Western, Sacred, Family, Children, Humorous and Adventure stories as well as poems. She also tells Amish Dutch stories. She prefers to tell to a mixed age audience Janet is a part-time professional/professional storyteller and has performed regularly with the Guild since the Spring of 1996.And, along with other performing guild members, Thursday evening beginning in October of 1996, at the Dillworth Diner in Jonesborough TN. And is now telling with the Guild at the Wedding Loft, in Jonesborough, TN. She has shared her stories with church groups, in nursing homes, for civic organizations and businesses, in schools and has appeared at the "Tennessee Teen Institute" and at "Tellabration" in Memphis. Janet has also appeared at the Memphis Zoo, Germantown Mall, TN Library Summer Reading Program, for Eastern Star and Women's Garden Clubs, Child Evangelism Fellowship and at bookstores. She has led workshops at "Hutchinson Girls School" and at the "Tennessee Teen Institute" in Memphis. For several years, Janet was with the Memphis Arts Council as a storyteller with the Arts in the School Programs. She has also shared stories at special Guild functions including "Tellabration." She is a member of "Memphis Storytellers League" where she held the position of Historian; "NSN" (National Storytelling Network); "Yarnspinners" where she was in charge of programs; and TAPPS (Tennessee Association for the Preservation and Perpetuation of Storytelling. |
