Kate Agmann was born and raised in northeast Texas.
She is the mother of two and the grandmother of three. After moving to New York
and then Florida, three hurricanes landed her in Tennessee. She happily lives in
a log cabin on the bank of the Nolichucky River.
At the early age of six, Kate started telling stories when she realized that her answers to "What happened at school today?" just weren't getting the response she wanted. Stories were a way of life for her and as much a part of family dinners as chicken and dumplin's. She has used storytelling to weave together the facets of her life that include everything from teaching adults and children in public and private schools to selling art and antiques. Stories about her large Texas family are her favorites. She also tells fairy tales, Bible stories and even appears in period dress to portray historical characters. Kate is a frequent teller at area festivals and events. Twice she has been invited to tell at the International Storytelling Center. Kate's favorite anecdote about her storytelling: I was asked by a person of color to tell the story she had written about slavery. I expressed my concern about how I, a white woman telling their story, would be received. She said, "If you're a good story teller, they won't pay any attention to what color you are." And you know, she was right. Thank you, Lydia. |
