". . . . stories that cause us all to say, 'Ah – ha!' when we hear them." |
Rocky Churchwell was born and raised in Central Florida (B.D.) before Disney. Growing up with crystal clear rivers and lakes, abundant wildlife, and the freedom to explore, Rocky has an appreciation for the country. He says that he can remember canoeing down several rivers in Central Florida while watching the alligators and snappin’ turtles swim under his canoe. Now those same places are populated with people. Entering college on a prayer and little else, Rocky was able to graduate with a B.A. in Music. He taught for a while and ministered for a while, finally ending up at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Later, while serving a church, Rocky earned his Ph.D. in Religion. Rocky has served faithfully in the ministry for over thirty years. He married Karen Jean Horne while in college and the two have three children, two sons and one daughter. One evening, on one of their Tuesday night father and daughter dates, Rocky and Sara found themselves at the Cranberry Thistle in Jonesboro attending one of their storytelling nights. Sara enjoyed the storytellers and told her daddy that he could do that since he was doing it in the pulpit every Sunday anyway. At first Rocky laughed it off, but eventually gave in to his daughter’s challenge and joined the guild. Rocky is an observer of life and creation. He likes to share stories about people he has met along the way, and things that he has discovered. Telling an occasional fairytale or funny story, he tends to lean toward those stories that cause us all to say, "Ah – ha!" when we hear them. |
