"Saundra Kelley is a Florida Cracker . . ." |
Saundra Kelley is a Florida Cracker – a seventh generation
descendent of folks who farmed their way from the Carolina's to Florida cracking
those bullwhips all the way south, back in the early 1800's.
She is noted for her passion for the environment. Her place-based stories called "Legends of the Wild," teach and inspire us to preserve, protect and save our natural and cultural heritage. Kelley's stories reflect her family's southern tradition and her own relationship to the earth. In addition, she tells personal narrative and regional stories and collects oral histories from all over the southeast. Saundra is a voice-actor and most recently recorded the narrator's voice for the Braille Trail at Warrior's Path park in Kingsport, Tennessee. She is a contributing author to Between Two Rivers, an environmental anthology, and an ongoing columnist, writing as the Tennessee Rambler, for the Wakulla Area Times in Florida. She is also authoring her first book, Riding the Clouds, an interpretive oral biography collection of Appalachian Storytellers. Kelley is a member of the Jonesborough Storytellers Guild, The National Storytelling Network, the Florida Storytelling Association and the Tennessee Writer's Alliance. |
